Process: Vacuum-Assisted Resin Transfer Molding (VARTM)
This is a process by which resin is introduced to a mold through injection ports and the fiberglass reinforcements and coring materials contained in the mold are saturated with the resin via vacuum.
Resins
The Thermoset Resins Division's molding specialists can help you with mold design and reinforcement selection, as well as the gel and cure parameters of the resin system. These resin systems are carefully formulated in vinyl esters, isophthalics, orthophthalics and dicyclopentadiene. The gel and cure formulations are tailored to your manufacturing technique.
Our high performance vinyl esters (VE8100 Series) offer you a variety of gel and cure profiles and physical properties. You can also select from our cost effective orthophthalic and DCPD resins.
Gel Coats
Interplastic's Gel Coat and Colorant Group offers several gel coat systems including isophthalic and iso/NPG® in a wide variety of colors. These products are easy to apply, repair and maintain, and exhibit excellent chalking, crazing and weather resistance.
Our low VOC gel coats deliver outstanding product performance and compliance with Southern California's South Coast Air Quality Management District's Rule 1162 and ANSI Z-124.3 sanitary ware tests. These pigmented gel coats have a 25 - 33% decrease in styrene levels over typical pigmented gel coats and have a weight loss below 60 grams per square meter. This satisfies two points of compliance with Rule 1162; only one is required. Our low VOC gel coat product line is available in a full array of colors.
